Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary
Nal Sarovar Bird sanctuary is basically a massive lake spread accross an area of 120 sq. Km. and is aituated at 7o Kms to the west of Ahmedabad. Nal sarovar harbours over 200 species of birds during the season of winter. Some of the species to name are the very famous Flamingoes and the Cranes. One can also find other birds such as pelicans, grey Herons, Storks, sea-gulls etc.
It also harbours a huge variety of exotic flora and fauna.
My trip to Nal-sarovar with Dennis started at 04:30 in the morning. The primary reason behind starting so early was to observe the sun rising over the horizon on a a chilly winter morning on the foreground of the lake. We reached there well in time. Once you reach Nal-sarovar and if you have your own vehicle, the best thing to do is to take the tickets (200 Rs per car, 6 people allowed) and straight away park your car in the parking near the Lake. You will find a huge gang of locals vying the visitors for taking a boat ride accross the lake. We hired a boat-rover for 551 INR for a 3.5 Hrs sail. The air was cool and the water was cooler!!!!!! we could spot quite a few birds some 2 Kms inside the lake. Our main aim being photography, we were ready with our shooting gear sooner as we reached the lake. Spotted and shot a few birds (not a gun-shot), we were now eagerly waiting for the sun to rise up the horizon.
and there it was, the first rays of the dawn, and we could see a masive red ball rising slowkly up the sky. Perfect opportunity for amateur photographers like us!!!! Perfect shots!!!!!!!!!!! We were happy!!!!!!
A couple of hours more at the lake and we were back on our journey back home. Perfect way to spend a early saturday morning with Birds, cool of the lake and a perfectly posing rising Sun!!!!!!
Couldn't ask for anything more!!!! The best time to travel to Nal-sarovar is in the winters i.e. november-february. Ideal way of transport is to have your own vehicle. But if you opt for public transport, local buses and private vehicles run from ahmedabad to Nal-sarovar on a regular basis.

Thol Bird Sanctuary
Thol bird Sanctuary, located about 40 Kms northwest of Ahmedabad in mahesana district, is an absolute treat for you if you are an avid bird watcher. This marshy lake spread across 7 sq km is home to one of the most beautiful species of migratory birds; Flamingoes. Basides the flamingoes you can find several other species of birds here, such as Great White Pelicans a variety of waterfowl including Mallards and good numbers of Greylag Geese, Sarus Cranes, the odd Spotted Flycatcher and waders which include Eurasian Curlews.
This place is a little secluded away from the main city, so it is better to have your own vehical for commutation. If you are some one who is using public transport as the mode, you will have to take a autorickshaw or a bus to thol village. Its a walk of about 3 Km ahead on the highway from thereon to thol bird sanctuary.
So this is it guys, my new adventure and photography trip to thol bird sanctuary. Thanks Khoosh, my partner in all sorts of crazy programs, for being along (she has visited the place earlier)!!! It was a beautiful experience roaming around the forest and the lake in the scorching may heat of gujarat. But an absolute delight in terms of bird watching and some amateur photography!!!!
P.s: posted are a few pics which i took, for illustration!!
